Comfortable rather than lavish, and we say which
Accra has polished hotels and some lovely small guesthouses. Outside the capital, the best rooms in most regions are clean, well run and air-conditioned, often with a pool or a garden, but not luxurious. In a few places, such as the women's guesthouse at Sirigu, they are simple, and worth it for the people and the place.
We tell you the standard of every room before you book, and we never describe a comfortable room as a luxury one.
Three standards
Polished
International-standard rooms, reliable air conditioning and hot water, good restaurants. Mostly in Accra.
Comfortable
Clean, well-run, air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms; often a pool or a garden. The best you will find in most regions outside Accra.
Simple
Small guesthouses and community lodges: fans rather than air conditioning in places, sometimes shared bathrooms. Chosen for the people and the place.
